IP Networks

IP-based Networks are extremely important around the globe.  Communication is vital the running of the business world and this new technology has made it much more efficient and reduces problems.  It uses packet-switched network technology, instead of the old circuit-switched networks technology, to send information.  Messages sent on IP-based Networks are made into packets of data.  These packets are then  addresses and “mailed” over the network.  They do not have to follow the same path every single time to reach their destination.  In effect, if there was a problem with one line, it could take a little detour and still reach the proper location.

Internet Protocol (IP) is used generally for connecting computers to build a computer network.  Each computer has its own personal IP address that is different from anyone else worldwide.  Each packet holds the IP address of the sender and the recipient.

Packets are sent between nodes (generally computers) via IP routers.  The routers help to determine the best and fastest way to reach the ending location, which is called routing.  Dynamic routing is most commonly used to find “detours” when a specific line is not working properly.
